The Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay is pleased to support the people of Door County in their pursuit of learning and enhancement of our community’s quality of life by offering scholarships and grants in six categories.
1. Academic Scholarships are awarded to ten high school seniors (including one designated as ‘most improved’) to students in the upper 25% of their high school class planning to pursue a full-time course of studies at an accredited college, university or state-operated vocational/technical school. These scholarships are worth $500 per semester for the freshman and sophomore years of college, a total of $2,000.00, funded by RCSB, the Fred J. Peterson Foundation and the Sturgeon Bay Rotary Charitable Trust. Most improved scholarship is intended for those unlikely to be as competitive academically, but who have overcome significant obstacles and/or shown significant improvement over the course of their high school career. Application deadline is midnight on the first Friday in March. Selections are announced by May 15th
a. Applicants must attend a Door County High School
b. Applicants must provide a high school transcript reflecting a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and the student’s placement in the upper 25% of the class
c. Scholarship Grant Awards are intended to help meet the applicant’s costs of education including tuition, books, fees, supplies and equipment
d. Recipients must provide proof of enrollment and transcripts each semester in order to continue to receive payments
2. Muckian Vocational Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors planning to attend a 2-year technical or vocational post-secondary program. Grants are typically $500-$1000 payable to the recipient in two equal installments over a two semester period following recipient’s proof of enrollment for first semester and proof of enrollment and first semester transcript for second semester. Application deadline is midnight on the last Friday in January. Selections are announced by March 15th
a. Recipients must be Door County residents.
b. Financial need is a consideration.
c. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from non-family members attesting to their character, determination to succeed, citizenship and service to their respective communities and any other information pertinent to evaluating the applicant’s eligibility.
d. Scholarship grant awards are intended to help meet the applicant’s costs of education including tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment.
3. Charitable Trust Post-High School Academic/Vocational Scholarship Grants are awarded to students in their second half of a 4-year academic or 2-year vocational collegiate course of study. Grants are typically $500-$1000 payable in a lump sum. Grants may be awarded more than once and may be non-taxable by the Internal Revenue Service. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year.
a. Recipients must be from Door County.
b. Financial need is a consideration.
c. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from non-family members attesting to their character, determination to succeed, citizenship and service to their respective communities and any other information pertinent to evaluating the applicant’s eligibility.
d. Scholarship grant awards are intended to help meet the applicant’s costs of education including tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment.
e. Applicants must demonstrate a high probability of success in completing their chosen course of study by submission of an official transcript documenting successful completion of their first half of their post secondary curriculum and a written confirmation from the Registrar that the applicant is enrolled for the semester in which the grant is being awarded.

4. Charitable Trust Scholarship Grants for Adults seeking career change or career advancement education are awarded to adults. Grants are typically $500-$1000 payable in a lump sum. Grants may be awarded more than once and may be non-taxable by the Internal Revenue Service. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year.
a. Recipients must be Door County residents.
b. Financial need is a consideration.
c. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from non-family members attesting to their character, determination to succeed, citizenship and service to their respective communities and any other information pertinent to evaluating the applicant’s eligibility.
d. Scholarship grant awards are intended to help meet the applicant’s costs of education including tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment.
e. Applicants must submit a written statement describing their previous employment with an explanation of how the proposed scholarship grant will assist them in meeting their goals to either advance their current positions or to be employable in a new career path. This statement should include reference to the applicant’s determination to succeed and a measure of demonstrated ability necessary to complete their selected course of study. Letters from past employers or potential new employers may also be submitted at the discretion of the applicant.

5. Projects, Programs or Charitable Activities Grants are awarded to individuals or groups. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year.
a. Recipients must be Door County residents.
b. Charitable activity may relate to health, hunger and humanities areas and must enhance community quality of life.
c. Number of people ultimately impacted will be considered.
d. No trust funds may be granted for annual fund drives, operating expenses, trusts of any organization, nor on-going programming. Start up costs for new ventures may be considered provided the applicant has demonstrated reasonable plans for ongoing future funding.

6. Charitable Trust Arts, Music, Sports, Business, Community Service and Special One-time Opportunity Grants are awarded to Door County residents pursuing educational opportunities outside a traditional high school, college or technical school curriculum. Due to the less well defined nature of these grants, tax implications must be considered by the recipients. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year. Feedback requirements will be announced in writing to recipients at the time of the award.
